Notes from the Cottage Archives
April 26, 2007
Spring is making a reluctant entrance this year and we are all anxious for it's arrival. At Adams Nurseries, we have several new varieties of perennials, including the Perennial of the Year for 2007, Nepeta fassenii "Walker's Low". It is a well behaved 10"-15" in height and produces violet-blue blooms.
Over the years, I've been asked for daisies that are a color other than white. I'm happy to announce that we have two. Leucanthemum "Sonnenschein" is a pale yellow that likes afternoon shade to maintain it's color and then fades to whie as it matures. Leucanthemum "Goldrausch" is a semi-double with gold center pretals that fade to white edged with lavender.
All of our favorite Echinaceas are returning; "Sunrise", "Sunset", "Twilight", "Harvest Moon", and "Ruby Star". This year we are adding Echinacea "Fancy Frills" which is a fragrant pink with multiple rows of shaggy petals. Other varieties will be available as well.
The Rudbeckia family, not to be overlooked, is adding Rudbeckia "Henry Eileis". It features tubular gold petals on lush, green foliage. (Hint - Think Gaillardia "Fanfare" - but in Black-Eyed Susan coloring).
Look for Helenium "Sahin's Early Flower" which blooms summer thru fall at about 36" and Monarda "Coral Reef" which has gorgeous coral-pink blooms and promises to be mildew-resistant at 36"-42".
For those of you who were disappointed when we ran out of Ligularia "Britt Marie Crawford", we will have double the stock this year
We're looking forward to a wonderful year of gardening and seeing our old friends once again.
For now - and all the best,
Wayne
