Notes from the Cottage Archive
July 10, 2007
It has been a while since my last entry. We've all been busy watering, feeding, and making a concerted effort to keep our plants alive and healthy.
Now that we are experiencing heat and humidity, we need to give our roses extra care. I'm impressed with Immunox. Available in spray bottles or as a concentrate, Immunox combats insects, fungal disease such as blackspot and also fertilizes. You really cannot go wrong. We do have a good supply in the garden center.
We've finally seen the new yellow daisy, 'Goldrausch', and it's quite wonderful. Fifteen to eighteen inches tall, it has a whimsical appearance with it's double fringe of petals. Be sure to put it on next year's wish list. Another new entry is the daisy, 'Broadway Lights', also yellow.
Earlier in the season, I mentioned a new Panicum grass, 'Prarie Fire'. The foliage is blue-green and the tips are burgundy. It has been used by a number of customers as an accent plant in containers. Another winner!
Coming up, on September 9th, on the Roycroft campus in East Aurora, Cornell Cooperative Extension is hosting its 10th annual Fall Garden and Farm Faire. The hours are 10am to 4pm. It will feature garden items, perennials, farm produce, soil pH testing, and great food. As usual, Adams Nurseries will be there and we hope to see you.
Happy Gardening,
